County-owned, publicly-playable, comfortably-long and scenically-pleasing golf on Kent Island in the Chesapeake Bay.

Island Golf in the Chesapeake Bay

Blue Heron Golf Course is a public "executive" course on Kent Island in the Chesapeake Bay. We've found that the definition of an "executive length" course varies, in this case it refers to an 18-hole layout that plays to a par of 63. That works out to an even mix of nine par 3 holes and nine par 4's. Three sets of tees play from 3,378 to 4,130 yards. The length, the configuration and the flat island terrain make it a very walkable course. Blue Heron is owned and operated by the Queen Anne's County Department of Parks & Recreation.

A Little Bit of Course History

The original course was only nine holes and opened in 1959. Course architect Richard Mandell was hired to redevelop the site as an 18-hole course which opened in 2002. A minimalist approach was used for the design, resulting in a layout with a maximum "altitude" of only 20 feet.
